Pancho attended Alzar School in Spring 2022 and wanted to apply his leadership skills when he returned home to Chile. He knew that many people — too many — lacked homes and lived on the streets of Chile’s capital city. He decided to recruit and lead volunteers for a renovation happening under an NGO.
Pancho recruited volunteers from his school and worked with the administration of the NGO to get permission to bring in youth workers to assist with the labor needed to improve the building that would become a center for people living on the streets of Santiago. The house is located in the center of Santiago and has more than 300 meters squared and would be able to help more than 150 people.
Pancho’s team completed more than 75 hours of service, including six additional visits past what was originally planned. Furthermore, his team worked hard to obtain materials for the construction. Their team was responsible for the improvement of more than 50m2 of the house.
"We did the most difficult step... building the relationship between my school and the church in charge of the house so future volunteers could work on the project as well."
