Introducing Spring 2019 Alzar School Bloggers

Alzar School | 16.01.19

Well, here we are, once again getting ready to kick off Alzar School’s fourteenth semester and we couldn’t be more excited. Valley County is blanketed in two feet of snow, mornings are crisp, to say the least, and the sun has been shining. Staff are working hard to prepare everything from homemade granola to de-winterizing student yurts, all in preparation for this upcoming Monday when families, friends, and most importantly students join us on our Idaho campus. To start off our blog this semester, we (Hattie and Caroline) wanted to introduce ourselves. Below, you will find a short introduction to who we are, and what we are excited to share with you all throughout this spring.

Hello from Cascade! My name is Hattie Tehan. I’m kicking off my second semester here at the Alzar School I will be students’ leadership teacher in the classroom, and expedition instructor when we are in the field. Although I am relatively new to Idaho, the Northwest has always been home, hailing from Central Oregon. This semester I am excited to travel alongside Semester XIV as we explore all that Idaho and Chile has to offer. Some of my favorite things to share include the “magic” of expeditions and thoughts from the leadership classroom. Throughout the semester I look forward to sharing some of the many memories that our community will make, in hopes that you feel like part of the community from afar.

Hi! My name is Caroline Kerr and I and the English Teaching Fellow and will also be working on the blog alongside Hattie this semester.  I am originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I attended Sewanee in Tennessee for college. I love to be outside, specifically kayaking and hiking whenever I can.  I was a student at the Alzar School in 2013, so I am excited to be back this semester in the English teaching fellow role and share the Alzar School experience with a new group of students both inside and outside of the classroom!

Happy Trails!
