JOB POSTING – Summer 2021 Alzar School River Squad
In 2019, Alzar School ran its first-ever Introduction to River Leadership Courses in partnership with Adventure Treks on Idaho’s Salmon River. These three trips introduced adolescents to the intricacies of running a multi-day, raft supported float on western rivers, including campsite selection and set up raft rigging, and downstream travel management. Over a few days of downriver travel, the participants were shown the nuts and bolts necessary to pull off a big float. Following the uncertainty of 2020, we are returning to the program in 2021.
In an expansion of the partnership, Alzar School will be teaching the Introduction to River Leadership Course as a component of Adventure Trek’s Yellowstone Teton Adventure, California Adventure, and California Challenge. It is with great excitement that Alzar School is returning to our historic course areas of the Klamath and Trinity Rivers in Northern California!
Alzar School is organizing a motivated team of river professionals to spend an intensive summer running multi-day raft trips for youth between Idaho and California. In partnership with Adventure Treks, the Alzar School River Squad will facilitate floats on sections of Idaho’s Salmon and California’s Klamath and Trinity Rivers. This roving squad of 5 will be a self-contained unit, moving from river to river, and working with 8th-10th grade participants. As a component of an Alzar School course, all participants will be enrolled in Introduction to River Leadership, a river specific curriculum that helps develop leaders who positively impact the world.
If this sounds like your style of summer work, we are currently accepting applications to build the team. The Summer 2021 Alzar River Squad Application is live and applications are being accepted through January.
