Admissions Representative: Marketing

Emma Scott is an Alzar School semester VII alumna who is now back in the role of Admissions & Communications Coordinator. Originally from Baton Rouge, LA, she fell in love with the outdoors by attending and working at a summer camp in North Carolina for 15 years. She has studied and interned abroad in Alaska, Germany, and South Africa. Anita Cussler

Director of Advancement

Anita found her place at Alzar School in 2014. As the Director of Advancement, Anita draws upon her previous experience working in higher education development and outdoor tourism to help to build relationships with alumni, families and supporters and secure resources for Alzar School. Over her years at Alzar School, she has witnessed first-hand the immediate and long-term ways in which Alzar School touches and empowers young lives. She is passionate about working to make Alzar School a supportive, accessible and powerful experience for all young leaders. In her spare time, Anita can be found tending her garden, shredding local mountain trails (dirt or snow covered) and spending quality time with her husband and young son. Cailin O’ Brien-Feeney

President

Cailin has been on the Board since 2014 and currently serves as the Director of Outdoor Recreation for the state of Oregon.  Previously, he was Local Recreation Advocacy Manager for the Outdoor Industry Association, a fellow with the Environmental Protection Agency, and Policy Director at the Winter Wildlands Alliance. Cailin started his journey in the outdoors as a teenager on a NOLS course. Since 2002 he has worked in the outdoor industry for ROW Adventures, NOLS, Alzar School, McCall Outdoor Science School, and others. When not behind a desk, he gets outside by bike, boat, or ski as much as possible. Cailin earned his master’s degree from the University of Idaho.

Katie Hawkins Andrews

Vice President

Katie has been involved with Alzar School as a volunteer, staff member, member of the Advisory Committee, and joined the Board of Directors in 2010. She has worked in the outdoor industry since 2000, and continues to teach wilderness medicine courses for NOLS Wilderness Medicine. Katie studied at Middlebury College in Vermont and Idaho State University in Boise, Idaho, and is now a Physician Assistant in Boise.

Barry Sullivan

Treasurer

Born in New York City Barry, spent his childhood in New York and London and received an undergraduate degree in economics from Rhode Island University, and MBA in finance from The University of Chicago.  He worked for investment firms, including Allen and Company, Greenwich Capital, Phibro Energy, Kleinwort Benson, as well as an independent trader. Barry is the proud father of three adventurous girls, the youngest of whom attended Alzar School in the spring of 2017.  He is a lifelong skier, avid outdoorsman, triathlete, Ironman, skeleton racer, and hiker.    Barry joined the Board in 2018.

Shauna Arnold

Secretary

Shauna loves the outdoors, being involved in the community and her children’s activities, traveling, reading, and spending time on the Salmon River. Her daughter attended the Fall 2013 semester at Alzar School, which inspired Shauna to continue her support of the school’s great programming. She joined the Board of Directors in 2014, and she is incredibly active in the Cascade community, leading with the Cultural Arts Center, Horizons’ Lifestyle and Education Team, and 4 Summit Challenge. She is a licensed massage therapist and obtained her B.A. from Trinity College and Theological Seminary.

Dr. Kim Tanabe

Member

Kim is a retired physician in Boise, Idaho, who loves spending time along the South Fork of the Payette River. She has been with Alzar School since its founding in 2008, serving on the Board as secretary and president. Over the years, Kim has been involved with other outdoor-related nonprofits and has taught kayaking in Idaho and Chile. She studied at the University of Washington.

Mike McIntyre

Member

Mike, passionate about helping Alzar School expand its reach, joined the Board in June 2017 after serving on the school’s Advisory Committee. He is president of the Cheswell Group, trustee emeritus for Lovett School in Atlanta, and parent of an Alzar School alumnus (Spring 2016). Mike completed an Outward Bound course in his youth, and continues to be an avid outdoorsman. 

Tucker Schrage

Member

Tucker lives in Alexandria, VA, where she and her husband both grew up and are raising their three children. The family enjoys traveling, particularly to excellent fishing holes around the country. With her M.Ed. and teaching background, Tucker enjoys finding unique and meaningful learning opportunities and experiences to enrich their children’s education. She received her degrees from The University of the South and Marymount University. As the mother of Spring 2014 and Spring 2017 Alzar School alumni, Tucker has brought a parent’s perspective to the Board since joining in 2014.

Cecilia Valdes

Member

Cecilia Valdes lives in Santiago, Chile with her four children, one of whom is a spring 2017 alumna of Alzar School. A native Chilean, Cecilia spent part of her youth in the United States, London and Colombia and holds a degree in design from Universidad Catolica de Chile. Cecilia is currently the Administrator of the Colonial House in Llay Llay, Chile and has worked as the Director of Corporate Gifts for Comercializadora de Productos Artesanales and Worldstock.com. Cecilia saw the power of Alzar School firsthand as her daughter participated in the program, and works to help make the experience possible for other Chileans. Cecilia joined the Board in 2018.

Shelly Luke Wille

Member

Shelly is the Head of School at Children’s Day School in San Francisco, California.  Previously, she was with Chadwick International, living and leading in Songdo, South Korea.  Shelly holds a deep-seated commitment to experiential and international education.  She completed the Klingenstein Center’s Head of School program in 2018 and several programs through the National Association of Independent Schools.  She loves to participate in endurance events (she’s completed 10 marathons, a half Iron Man, and multiple other triathlon events).  Shelly is proud mother and guardian of three energetic, creative boys.

Philip Henderson

Philip currently works as the Repair and Outreach Specialist for Osprey Packs in Cortez, Colorado.  Previously, he was the river program manager for NOLS.  He has lived and worked all over the USA, as well as in Patagonia, Chile and Nepal.  He has dedicated significant efforts to advocating for people of color to explore and enjoy the outdoors.
